Some Progress- Persecution Standard Extends to LGBTQ

In an article by Kilian Melloy at EDGE (http://www.edgeboston.com/index.php?ch=news&sc=glbt&sc2=news&sc3=&id=52303):

A Jamaican man has been granted asylum in America on the grounds that he would be in danger if he were returned to Jamaica. Messam won his bid for asylum from the U.S. Government. Messam’s claim reflects the level of persecution GLBT people endure in Jamaica. Jamaica has been called one of the world’s most homophobic countries, a nation where police torture gays and same-sex relationships have to be concealed on pain of imprisonment.

This is a great step forward, but it might be to early judge whether this sets precedent or not.
