Detention Standards in the US

In response to pressure from advocacy groups (see "Locking up Family Values") about the maltreatment of children and families at detention centers, most notably the Hutto Family Detention Center, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement was ordered to develop a set of standards for detention. Previously, detention facilities did not have standards for treatment of children and families. The standards were released in January of this year (2008).
