George Washington University students help provide scholarships to Darfur Refugees
Since 2004, student groups across the country have been active in advocacy to take action to stop the violence in Darfur. From lobbying to pushing for divesting, the student movement has been very active. George Washington University students have created Banaa, which is the Arabic term for education and enlightenment. It is mobilizing funds to create educational scholarships for outstanding youth in Darfur to come study in American colleges and universities. Other American institutions of higher learning are also expected to grant scholarships. So far, four universities have signed on.
