Refugees in Turkey

Traveling through Turkey (if you have the chance to do so, I highly recommend it, especially among religious history buffs) I discovered that refugees in Turkey go beyond the Kurds, Iraquis and Iranians. On my first night in Istanbul, my Turkish bath masseuse was a refugee from the Congo, fleeing Kinshasa four years ago. Where is the information on refugees such as Mina? Does the government have an accurate census?

Turkey maintains a policy of dispersal, placing asylum seekers in remote parts of the country, and detention. And many people including the several guides we had on the trip thought of refugees as economic migrants. However, as Turkey aspires to join the EU, this may be an area the government may need to reform. This proves to be difficult with the public viewing minority groups such as the Kurds, with much disdain, especially after the recent bombing.
