The US removes the HIV Exclusion ban?
While some are ecstatic about the PEPFAR reauthorization bill that not only directed $50 billion to halt the spread of HIV/Aids in developing countries, they also eliminated the 21 year old ban on HIV-positive visitors and immigrants. Others warn that even if the bill passes, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) maintains the final word on the ban. Although HHS officials previously expressed a willingness to remove the ban, they may delay the decision until the next administration takes office.
