Immigrants and Mortgages

Some more evidence that undocumented immigrants were good at paying their loans and mortgages:

NPR:
  • "Politics Undercut Mortgages For Illegal Workers": Over the past four years, tens of thousands of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. have bought homes. Banks that have made such mortgages say in some cases they perform better than some loans taken out by U.S. citizens. But many lenders are pulling out of this market because of the downturn in the economy and political reactions.
  • "Illegal Immigrants Good Mortgage Risk": Some banks allow illegal immigrants to obtain a home mortgage even if they don't have a Social Security number. While the borrower's citizenship status may be undocumented, their ability to pay is thoroughly checked out. Surprisingly, illegal immigrants are often a good risk.

Thank you for this post. Mortgages are tough for everyone but it's good to get this kind of information and see what's going on in the mortgage world.
