New polling from the NY Times/CBS shows that two-thirds of Americans support giving legal status to undocumented immigrants, with 44% supporting a path to citizenship.
This may be why President Obama felt comfortable yesterday confirming his plans to move ahead with immigration reform during his first year in office. Other factors favor reform, like immigration hearings in the Senate, the launch of a new Latin@ political coalition, and the defection of Arlen Specter to give the Democrats 60 votes in the Senate.
